The Grenada Cruise Port:

The Grenada Cruise Terminal Project

With the completion of the Cruise Port, the ferrying of passengers ashore by small tender boats is history. The Cruise Port accommodates two to three vessels simultaneously and is designed with the most modern class of cruise ship in mind. The port in capable of berthing vessels of up to 980-feet with drafts in excess of 9 meters – including the Queen Mary 2 - and will have the ability to provide potable water and discharge service to the pier.

The Cruise Port, with its 700 sq. meter Visitor Welcome Centre has now been in operation for over one month and is being considered a major success for all parties involved. Everybody --- from captains, to vendors to taxi drivers --- is very confident.  And, most importantly, the passengers are also expressing are their enjoyment of Grenada as a cruise destination. There are no tender problems, the transportation facilities are excellent and the town is within walking distance. Taxi drivers are noticing that substantially more passengers are disembarking from the ships and, as a result, the same ships appear to bring much more business to them than they did in the past. Taxi drivers were used to have one trip a day and are now having two trips. Captains are really very satisfied with the nautical and berthing advantages which they now have.

In October 2005, the Duty Free Retail facilities will be completed and,  together with the Visitor Welcome Centre these two facilities will form an integrated concept to facilitate disembarking and embarking passengers, as well as land based tourists.
